| New GLYSSN Project Coordinator! Hello, I'm Julia the new Project Coordinator for GLYSSN. I'm also working on annother project which is all about promoting the health of young people, particularly sexual health. I'm very excited about my new job and am keen to look at new ways to make GLYSSN more fun, interesting, challenging, rewarding, educational, silly, or whatever it is you would like it to be! I look forward to meeting you soon :) |
You may not be quite sure yet, curious or confused - you are still welcome. We meet in Hurstville, but our workers are available to meet up and chat anywhere - Miranda, Sutherland, Rockdale, Kogarah, Cronulla, wherever!
As well as the group, the GLYSSN Project works with local youth, health and community services as well as schools to address homophobia and improve the health, wellbeing and resilience of SSAYP.
GLYSSN is a project provided by St George Youth Services. GLYSSN helps provide support, advice, education and social events to same-sex attracted youth under 25 in the South Sydney region. GLYSSN celebrates all kinds of diversity and promotes respect and understanding.
The group was started as "Out On Wednesdays" in 1995 by the EASY Project (now ShireWide Youth Service). It became GLYSSN and was run by the area health service for a number of years. Since 2003 it has been run by St George Youth Service as a community partnership project.
"I first connected with Glyssn in 2003. Since then I have seen many changes and made many friends. When I first joined I didn't know anyone and felt really alone. But now I return to help other people. I like to meet new people and hearing people share their stories. It feels great to find other people who have been through the same problems and had similar issues. I got a lot from GLYSSN and I've made a lot of good friends. Sometimes I can't go to anything for a few months but I like to go back just to see what's changes and find out the latest info. "
